David Hirst on Parliamentary 101 and the Role & Functions of Parliamentary Staff

This short video lecture features David Hirst, Advisor of Westminster Foundation for Democracy, Library Specialist of the UK House of Commons, and an expert in parliamentary research and briefing specializing in energy and environmental policy. David Hirst briefly discusses the core elements of parliaments, contextualizing them within the theories of democracy and parliamentary forms of government. David Hirst also zeroes in on the role and functions of parliamentary staff – supporting Members of Parliament in carrying out their legislative, oversight, and representative functions – and how these support the overall aims of the parliament.
